Marbella's amazing weather
|
|
Positioned between the beach and the Sierra Blanca mountain
range behind it, Marbella enjoys an unusually pleasant micro-climate.
Winds may be buffeting the Straits of Gibraltar just across the bay, flattening
the waves in Fuengirola just up the coast, blowing spray onto the Paseo
Maritimo of Estepona just down the coast but the weather in Marbella will be calm and
pleasant. A mild temperature throughout the year, shorts and
hats for summer and generally a light jersey will do fine for many days
in winter.
On the sunny side however, weather records show that the average temperature is 19º C and the sun
shines for 320 days a year with less than 50 days of rain. Rains fall
in winter from November through to February. Given the closeness of Marbella
to the deserts of Africa just across the Mediterranean, residents value
every day of rain however unseasonable it may be! |

| To put the above figures into perspective please note that January of 2005
was one of the driest four Januaries of the last 50 years together with 1964, 1983 y 1993 |
| A reader from Sacramento asked "Do you have any idea of what kind of weather we can look forward to at the end of September, and October. Much rain? Thanks" Gomarbella replied "Sorry we can't tell exactly which days the rain will fall on! But September rains are usually short, the sun breaks through quickly and the pavements, streets and countryside are wonderfully clean and cool again after the summer heat. Welcome fall in temperatures after the summer. A light jersey is normally fine." |
| A UK reader asked about the weather in December and January. Gomarbella replied "Hi! According to average statistics in Marbella we get 26 days of sun in each month and only 5 days of rain in each. Last Christmas (2000) it rained solidly! Hours of sun, 8 for December and 6 for January. That's actual sun, not daylight! Temperatures of 13º and 12º respectively. You will see that it is likely to be a bit more comfortable in December than in January. But we will be reading about people freezing in Paris or Madrid and be walking around in light sweaters! Hope this helps. Wish I could guarantee it!" |
