Malaga Airport Information

The Malaga Airport train station is one of the most used stops on the line between the Maria Zambrano main train station in Malaga and Fuengirola at the end of the C1 (Cercanias 1) line. The timetable for trains between the Centro Alameda terminal in Malaga and Fuengirola stations shows departures in both directions from all stops in opposite directions every 20 minutes.

Travellers on the train to Malaga airport arrive in the super new underground train station right next to the the main T3 airport building.

The track runs overground all the way from Fuengirola train station until it makes its approach to the Malaga airport train station.

The airport train station is less than 100metres from the exit door of the ground level arrivals hall. Walk out of the arrivals door and the train station is right in front of you.

Some of the intermediate train stops like the Los Boliches train in Fuengirola have been adapted for use by wheelchair users and can be accessed easily and there is a lift to the platform at the airport.

Below are some questions and answers about train travel out of Malaga airport train station

Question: "Hi Mike, we're arriving at Malaga airport at lunchtime 29th August and will be taking the train to Fuengirola. Is there ample luggage storage on the train and do we need coins to operate ticket machine at the train station please? Thanks Cristina"

Answer: "Hi Christine, thanks for writing in. At Malaga airport train station there are ticket machines and also a ticket office where you can get your tickets. The car parking payment machines give change for notes up to €20 so I'm sure the ticket machines at the station will do the same. €5 or €10 or €20 euro notes but not bigger.

About the luggage, the aisles in the compartments on the C1 train to Fuengirola are wide and you can keep your suitcases with you. I was on the train about two months ago and don't remember seeing luggage racks. It's a short journey, less than 40 minutes to Fuengirola from the airport and there are lots of stops in between. Don't take your eyes off your luggage at any time, especially when people are getting on and off the train. Also be careful of jostling if the train is crowded. Put your passports away out of sight before getting on the train.

Christine it's a very comfortable journey, there's music and airconditioning and electronic notification of stations and you will all be fine but at the same time be careful of anyone targeting holidaymakers. I would rather give you a reminder than have someone get off the train with one of your suitcases! My wife puts her hand firmly on her suitcases and glares at anyone who comes near. It's your luggage! Have a great holiday and enjoy your travels. Best wishes Mike"
