Writers on the Costa del Sol and in Andalucia are very lucky indeed.  Day to day, their lives are blessed with amazing natural beauty and the chance to find inspiration on every corner.  So, it's no surprise to learn that scattered throughout this beautiful region are an ever growing collection of writers and in turn, an ever increasing amount of writing resources.  Here's a quick run-down on what's on offer:

  • Activity Holidays offer the UK writer a creative break in which the holiday is a combination of writing and relaxing by the pool. There are plenty to choose from in Southern Spain.
  • If you don't fancy such a structured break, why not choose a writing retreat instead?  Here you can choose your own schedule and go into hermit mode.
  • For the ex-pat who lives here full time, what about joining a writing circle or group?  They're the perfect place to meet other writers and steadily get better.
  • Staying on resources for ex-pats - why not check out any one-day or weekend creative writing or scriptwriting workshops?  A great opportunity to meet other writers and have fun all in one day
  • If you prefer to go it alone, then there are plenty of short story com petitions to enter.  OCI and REM radio stations often run an annual competition.  Check out the coastal magazines for any other competitions too
  • Or just approach the coastal magazines direct and submit a short story, usually with a local theme.  They are usually very receptive to publishing new writers.
  • Don't forget non-fiction.  Spanish lifestyle magazines in the UK often commission articles from writers based in Spain.  Write about what you know and you probably know a lot about property!
